Kaylee Cavanaugh wants to be normal.  She acts normal.  She looks normal.  She has normal crushes and does normal things and thinks normal thoughts.  But Kaylee Cavanaugh is anything but normal.  She has a serious problem.  Kaylee has a screaming problem.  And a dead people problem.  She can tell when people are going to die.  And when she sees people who are going to die, she gets a crazy, almost irrepressible urge to scream.  As loud as she possibly can.  And once she starts screaming, she can’t stop.  She doesn’t know why.  Her aunt and uncle (who she lives with) heard her scream once.  They admitted her into the psych ward at the local hospital, and now she really doesn’t want to scream ever again (not that she wanted to before).  She can’t talk about this funky, unexplainable curse with anyone.  And her screaming urges have been coming more often lately.  Something bad is definitely going down.

I stole this from North in study hall because, as always, I had no homework to occupy my time during that period, and I didn’t feel like writing.  I was totally sucked in, and by third period the next day I had finished the book completely.  It was that good!  The beginning was pretty good, and the story just got better from there.
The plot was different from anything I’ve read recently, although it still had that mystical feel to it that I am drawn to so strongly.  Right in the middle of this book, there’s this humongous twist that left me reeling.  But in a cool, I-never-saw-that-coming-what’s-going-to-happen-next sort of way.  Then there were two more twists, in rapid succession, at the end of the book that I couldn’t believe at all.  The plot is crazy and unbelievable at times, but at the end everything makes sense.  It could stand alone, but it is part of a series (with the second and third books already out).
My favorite characters were Nash and Tod.  Nash was super sweet and lovable, but he was also smart and powerful.  He was an all around likable character.  Tod was almost the exact opposite of Nash.  He was secretive and mysterious (with very good reason), and he was creepy and slightly devious.  There was something dark in him that can’t really be identified (until the end), but something about him made me like him just as much as I like Nash, despite their extremely different personalities.  Kaylee was a good main character.  There was only one part when I didn’t like her, when she started irrationally panicking over a discovery she made.  I understand why she was freaking out, but I wish she had kept it together a little better than she did (which was barely at all).  Other than that, she was really good.  I liked that she was such a powerful character, even without knowing it.
My favorite part of the whole book was the main concept it revolves around.  I can’t really say too much, because I don’t want to give the book away, but it was pretty incredible.  It was right up my alley, and I thought it was original, and it touched on something that I’d heard of only faintly.  With so many books today about vampires and werewolves, it was nice to see something that was totally not either of those…breeds?  Species?  Whatever they are.  The topic was a refreshing change from the blood-sucking book craze sweeping the nation.
Good book?  Yupp.  Looking forward to reading the next books in the series?  Oh yeah.  Bring on the Soul Screaming!

I grabbed this book when I needed a new good book and it was on Dream’s list.  I thought that it was a pretty decent book.  It wasn’t amazing and it wasn’t terrible. I think that she should have screamed a little more than she did though.  Most of the times when she had to scream she held it in and made it go away.  I feel like she should have screamed a little more because this book was called Soul Screamers, but that was just a little detail.  I do agree with Living Destiny in saying that the twist kind of made the whole book.  Before the twist I was starting to get bored and about to give up, then the twist hit and I was extremely interested until the end and I really enjoyed the different things that she added  in the end to hold the readers attention.  My favorite character in this story was Tod.  I loved him , I thought that he was a perfect character for the book.  He was whitty, nice, very loving, and annoying in a good way.  I also liked Nash but not as much as Tod.  The only thing that I didn’t like about Nash was that at times he could get very sketchy but in a very creepy way.  It was times when he was trying to be sweet to Kaylee it just came out weird.  Other than that I think he was a great love interest for Kaylee.  The thing that I wasn’t to crazy about was the writing style, although the story was engaging when she wrote things they sometimes came out boring.  There were parts where I had to power through because I knew that a good part was coming and the part that I was at was supposed to be exciting but for some reason just wasn’t.  Any of you readers out there that are stuck in the beginning just keep going because it gets better after the twist.
