Bella can’t be more happy.  Edward has returned from almost exposing himself to the Volturi and she has taken a poll with the Cullen family and they have decided to turn her into a vampire.  The only thing on her mind is spending her last year of high school with Edward.  Well, she is also thinking about Jacob and how he won’t return any of her calls no matter how hard she tries to contact him.  Meanwhile, Victoria is forming an army of vampires to fight the Cullens and finally get her revenge on Edward for killing her mate James. Leading the new vampires is a new vampire that she turned called Riley who will do anything to please her.  Back in Forks there has been mass murders and the authorities have no idea what is causing them but the Cullens know that it is this new vampire army,  they just aren’t sure who is leading it all.  Meanwhile, Jacob pays Bella and Edward a little visit at school to warn the vampires to stay off werewolf territory.  Bella asks why this is happening and when Jacob tells her of the fight that takes place she gets mad at Edward for not telling her what was happening.  She quickly jumps on his motorcycle to go with him.  When they get to his house he expresses his true feelings for Bella and how he won’t stop until she is his.  Now Bella is faced with the decision Edward of Jacob.

What We Think

I saw this movie opening night with my friends as we always do and I was thinking it was going to be terrible.  Although the commercials looked intense I didn’t think it was going to be that good because the past two movies did not follow the book at all.  After the movie I was pleasantly surprised.  This movie followed the book extremely well and I applaud the director and screenwriter for this.  As my friend pointed out to me after the movie, they had a lot of parts where it was word for word from the book.  In my eyes that is huge because if the movie doesn’t follow the book that just makes me mad because you are changing the already good story.  This movie was also intense, especially the fight scene between the newborns, the vampires and the werewolves.  I was actually really into the movie and even though I knew what was going to happen because I read the book, I was still entertained.  The thing that bothered me with this movie was Kristen Stewart’s acting.  I’m mean no offense to her but she is a really bad actor and the whole time she looks like she is on drugs.  This is a setback for the entire movie because I do not feel connected to the main character and when the other characters are talking I am in the story and the instant she starts to talk I realize that I am sitting back in the movie theater and no longer in Forks.  The same thing goes for Dakota Fanning and these two characters are kind of what ruined the movie for me.  On the plus side I think that Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner did a fantastic job and they leveled out the acting for Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning.  The other thing that bothered me, was the added beginning and end scenes with Edward and Bella.  These scenes were not needed and I think that the space could have been used for better scenes or the money could have been used to improve the sparkling effect on the vampires (which was really bad).  Props to the screenwriter again, for making Charlie an extremely comical character because in the book he is that way and in the last two movies he has not been very funny.  Almost every time he was talking I was laughing in my seat along with everyone else in the movie theater.  In summary, this movie was a lot better than the first two and followed the book very well but try to ignore Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning’s bad acting.

Let’s review, shall we? Twilight: crazy popular and not at all good. Script was horrible and the acting was even worse. Not good. New Moon: Improved. Considerably better. Still the script and acting (mostly Kristin Stewart’s) could use some work. A definite ehh movie. Eclipse: Much better. It could possibly be classified as a pretty good movie. How different from Twilight! Here, the script, the acting, the movie itself was surprisingly good.  First off is the script. I was laughing (sometimes out of context, like romantic scenes that were too corny to go unnoticed) and cringing. I wasn’t “aww”ing because the romantic scenes was were the script fell flat. The romantic scenes in my opinion just weren’t very believable (90% of the scenes were just Kristin Stewart and Robert Pattinson making out for no apparent reason) especially when they were talking.  Yeah, mostly just because Kristin Stewart doesn’t know the meaning of the word emotion. She always looks like she doesn’t care whats happening. Robert Pattinson was better than her in acting  his part as Edward, but still sometimes I thought there was something off about him. Maybe that’s just me. Taylor Lautner was the best actor out of the three and his performance as Jacob was very convincing.  He was one of the better actors of the movie, along with Jackson Rathbone as Jasper Cullen. I thought he did a great job with his part.  Another thing that I have to respect was the fact that they really went along with the book. Points for that, screen-writers, points for that. The only time they didn’t really go along with the book was scenes with Victoria’s vampire army, which  – even though they weren’t in the book – were some of the best parts of the movie. So, as you can see, Eclipse was infinitely better than Twilight and New Moon. We can only hope that Breaking Dawn will be better still.

So I saw this movie with North and Dream on opening night, like every other Twilight movie. So like them I went in with very low expectations. You see these movies ruined my opinion of the books. These books used to be the center of my life. I wanted to be a vampire. I wanted to kiss Edward Cullen and  meet Alice Cullen. Then I saw the movie and I didn’t want to be a vamp anymore (I still want to meet Alice Cullen though). The first two movies were horrible. I didn’t like them at all and I left the movie theater feeling like a child being told that Santa Claus isn’t real. The second movie was the worst and then I almost didn’t want to go to the next movie. Yes the commercials looked good but aren’t they always hyped up? Yes! So I was being very pessimistic. If North and Dream weren’t going I probably wouldn’t have gone at all. Then we entered the first scene and my heart fell. This was a scene that wasn’t in the book and was probably something that they would use to mess up the movie. I couldn’t have been more wrong.  I even liked the scenes with Riley and Victoria they made the movie I thought. The one thing that I would say is that Kristen Stewart never will be a favorite actress of mine. I do not like her. I think, that is part of the reason I didn’t like New Moon so much. The movie was all her, and when she can’t act it’s hard to watch. Edward and Jacob were totally the best part of the movie besides Jasper and Alice who will forever hold a place in my heart for that amazing training scene in which they kissed for the first time in all the movies. Edward and Jacob had total chemistry in the tent scene. They both are the superior actors in the movie and they stole the screen anytime they came on (and not because they are super hot!). They made up for Kristen Stewart’s bad acting and actually raised the movie to better standards than ever before in my mind. I have to give props to the producers too. The fight scenes were absolutely amazing. They captured the feeling of the intense and fast fighting that is described in the book. Jacob put up his ultimatum to Bella quite well, too. Now my favorite character will always be Jasper and since his presence in the movie was important his good acting came out. Jackson Rathbone has some serious talent. Not to mention the scene when he was in the civil war outfit and looking exceptionally good looking. I really think that the movies will only get better from here. This was by far the best of the three. I can’t wait to see the last movie. Hopefully it will be the best and the Twilight Saga will go out with a bang the way it was supposed to.
