We recently heard of this great new book called The Thirteenth Chime and couldn’t wait to see what author Emma Michaels had to say!
RTR: If you could have lunch with anyone, alive or dead, who would you choose and why?
Emma: Nikola Tesla – a genius, highly misunderstood and for some reason I think it would feel like the mad-hatter’s tea party.
RTR: What is your guilty pleasure?
Emma: Chocolate and my fiance’s cooking. He isn’t a chef but sometimes I think he should be!
RTR: What’s the one thing you could not live without?
Emma: Chocolate! *laughs* A small piece can really brighten the day
RTR: How long did it take you to get The Thirteenth Chime published?
Emma: I began querying in December 2009, but I only received my good news this summer. It’s been quite a ride!
RTR: Have you always wanted to be an author?
Emma: Yes, from the day I finished my first YA novel I knew I wanted to be a writer.
RTR: How do you get the ideas for your book?
Emma: One night here where I live, there was a storm that knocked out the power. We went next door to share a few candles. The storm raged outside and lightning flashed while thunder shook the house. The wind tore at the roof and trees but then suddenly, everything went still for a moment. Right then, the antique grandfather clock in the house began to chime. The sound echoed throughout the house and before I knew it, I unconsciously reached out for someone’s hand, yearning to have a bond as my heart thudded. It was in that moment that “The Thirteenth Chime” was born.
RTR: If you weren’t a writer, than what would you be?
Emma: hmmm… lost! I would be so lost without writing! I don’t know what I would do, probably just work at a Borders or a Library so that I could be around books.
RTR: What is your favorite prehistoric animal?
Emma: Triceratops – there is just something truly noble about them.
RTR: Did you have any favorite authors as a teen?
Emma: Yes, Tamora Pierce!
RTR: Juiceboxes or jukeboxes?
Emma: Juiceboxes! As long as it is 100% natural juice and I can recycle the box
I can be such a little kid sometimes but it is always good to stay young at heart!
Thank you Emma and we can’t wait for your debut novel The Thirteenth Chime!
