Drive-in Movies

So, if you’ve read my review on Toy Story 3 you know that I just recently went to my first Drive-in Movie. It was one of the funnest things that I have ever done. When I think about Drive-ins I think about Grease and the famous Sandy and Danny scene. The 50′s era is one of my favorites. Poodle-skirts and jukeboxes are just my thing, I guess. So I was happily surprised when I got to the “theater” and it was designed as a fifties diner. There were pictures of Elvis and Grease movie posters pasted on the walls. If there weren’t fancy cars and signs for new and upcoming movies I would have thought that I had stepped into a time machine and was somehow transported back to the fifties. The best thing was that I got to see TWO movies, it’s what they call a double-feature. I saw Toy Story 3 and Grownups. It was a good night, chilling in the back of my car and watching funny movies. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect first time at a drive-in.
The whole feeling of the place is friendly. Everyone is parked near the middle and there are kids running around and adults chatting off to the side. It’s like a big cook-out except that you don’t really know everyone : ). People also tailgated here. They brought along their mini-grills and sat in the back of their pick up trucks and had a mini picnic.
That’s another thing. You need the right car to go to a drive-in. Pick up trucks are ideal. You can sit on the open part and watch the movie fine, all you need are lots of blankets and a good “seat in the house”, and it will be a great night. Another good car choice would be volkswagons when you can open up the trunk and put down your seats all the way and watch the movie. Vans also are good choices. You can put up the trunk and put down the seats and you have your own personal theater. Don’t worry about not being able to see with people’s trunks open either. Most places tell you to bring string or provide it there, so you can tie your trunk door down to the right position.
This is just an unexplainable experience. If you have never been before you should go now because you are missing out on one of the coolest adventures that you will ever go on. I think that it is better than a regular movie. But the only problem is that the are hard to find. They are dying out but you should find the one nearest you and head straight for the entrance! I promise you won’t be disappointed!
