Ever since Alice Kingsleigh was a little girl she has had the same reoccurring dream of a mad hatter,  bunny with a watch, and other strange things.  Whenever she has this dream she thinks of what her father used to tell her and that was that the people who are mad are the greatest people in the world.  Thirteen years later she is at a family event when Hamish Alice’s suitor proposes. Not knowing what to say Alice looks to the bushes and see’s a white rabbit with a pocket watch pointing to the time.  Excusing herself she runs after the rabbit and falls down the rabbit hole.  Soon Alice finds herself in Wonderland but doesn’t remember anything about it and thinks it is a dream, while all of the characters in Wonderland believe she is the famous “Alice” who is to slay the Jabberwocky.  Along the way Alice meets some interesting characters all the while trying to discover why she is dreaming these things and if she should slay the Jabberwocky.

I absolutely love this movie!  After the movie was done I wanted them to play it again.  I was lucky enough to go today (the day after it came out) and all the seats were sold out in a 500 seat theater and the shows for the rest of the day were sold out too.  I wasn’t at all surprised at the end to see why it was sold out, this movie was simply amazing.  Johnny Depp was brilliant although he kind of said the same thing the whole time but his acting was brilliant and he became the mad hatter.  Helena Bonham Carter was also amazing.  Her character believe it or not was actually comical, she was probably the only one cracking jokes!  Mia Wasikowska was beyond belief I couldn’t believe this was her first big movie she seemed really natural and she is super pretty.  I feel bad for her though because she had to go through at least 5-8 costume changes!  All together this was a fantastic movie.  I was blown away because I had very high expectations because Alice in Wonderland is probably my favorite story of all time and I’ve read both Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass 3 times each, so my expectations were very high.  Those were completely blown away.  The entire time I was sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see what was going to happen!  The only thing that is a must with this movie is that you have, have to see it in 3-D.  The 3-D is perfect because it is not cheesy 3-D with hands popping out but more a depth thing which makes it seem more real.  The only teeny bitty thing I had a problem with was that the cake she eats to grow larger that says Eat Me is supposed to be cookies, but that is IT!  I applaud you Tim Burton for making a masterpiece!!

I saw this movie in imax with my friends the day after it came out. We had originally planned to see it the very day it came out (being the crazed movie fans that we are) but before we could buy the tickets, the movie sold out. I was surprised. But now I understand. The movie was awesome. I don’t know how else to say it. It was amazing. Creepy, and definitely weird. But that’s what you get with Tim Burton. Moving on…Mia Wasikowska was great as Alice. In my opinion she was the perfect Alice. In the beginning she acted very timid, which fit the character, but by the end her character had developed. Instead of being timid she was supposed to be strong and independent. And Mia Wasikowska portrayed this changed perfectly. And then there was Johnny Depp. He was completely CRAZY. But, he was the mad hatter, so I guessed he played the part well. He had this weird scottish accent half the time…which was bizarre…but I think it was supposed to be. He was brilliantly mad. I loved it. I haven’t read the books, so I don’t really know how things are supposed to be. I’ve seen the cartoon disney version of the story, and I have a feeling they might have messed a few things up. So while I watched this new version, I kept thinking “Is this right? Is this right?” Apparently, the only thing that was wrong was the EAT ME. Which, frankly, I don’t particularly care about. So it was a cake and not a cookie…oh well. I think that deserves a BRAVO! because for that to be the only thing not like the book…that’s amazing.  The red queen was amazing. She was funny. She was the last person I would have expected to be funny. But she was. It was great. The acting was amazing, the special effects were wonderful, and the plot was simply brilliant. This was definitely a great movie and a must-see.
