The Gist
The Sharks and the Jets absolutely hate each other. It’s a rivalry that no policeman, feud, or death can ever make disappear. The Puerto Rican gang, the Sharks, want to move back home. The girls of the group insist on staying in America, but the argument didn’t really end there. Meanwhile, the New Yorker gang, the Jets, are losing a member. Tony wants out of the gang. He wants a promising future and he knows he’ll never have any future with the Jets. Maria is the sister of Bernardo, the leader of the Sharks. She loves America and the bright future it promises. At a dance, Tony and Maria meet for the first time, and it’s love at first sight. They were willing to do anything to be together, and they have to promise each other that nothing the gangs will do will ever tear them apart.

The classic musical made into a movie. It was fantastic. It’s a remake of Shakespeare’s famous play, Romeo and Juliet. I saw this movie fairly recently. I had my doubts about it, because I thought, if I’ve seen Romeo and Juliet, why would I want to see basically the same thing – with different characters – all over again? But, my friend kept insisting that my childhood would be a deprived one until I saw this movie, so I checked out the copy at the town library and watched it. It was amazing! The story wasn’t all that original, but the characters were lovable and life-like. The acting was great, and of course, the music was beyond phenomenal. I absolutely loved all of the songs in this movie. I just wanted to listen to them over and over again. The singers were amazingly talented. In short, it was a fantastic movie that I would recommend everyone see.
Real Teen Rating~ A+ : If you haven’t seen this movie you’re a deprived soul!
