The Gist
Toby Thompson (Jimmy Bennett) is bullied to no end by Helvetica Black (Jolie Vanier) and her brother Cole. Though Toby’s sure it’s because Helvetica is secretly in love with him, knowing this fact never seems to help his circumstance. When Toby’s friends Laser (Leo Howard) and Loogie (Trevor Gagnon) find a mystical rainbow rock everything begins to go downhill from there. When holding the rock, any wish you say aloud will be granted, no strings attached. But when the rock falls into the hands of this story’s evil villian, everyone has to work together to defeat him. Toby and his friends must team up with Helvetica and her gang to save the rainbow rock and their home town, Black Falls.

This movie was bad. There. That’s all there is to it. The acting wasn’t good, the script wasn’t well written, the whole idea had been used before, and some of the scenes were extremely bizarre. It was directed by the same people who directed Spy Kids.  So if you’ve seen that movie you’ll have some idea of what this one is like: the kids save the day and everything goes back to being perfect and happy. Yay. Well, it’s not “yay” for those of us watching. I know what you must be thinking: if the movie was this bad you could probably tell by the previews. And yes, I could. It looked like the corniest movie ever (which it was). So why did I go and see it? For laughs. To make fun of it. The worse the movie is the more entertaining it is to make fun of with friends. So if you’re looking for the perfect movie to make fun of, watch this one. If not – if you’re looking for an actual decent movie – avoid this at all costs. It was a kids movie gone WRONG. So, like I said, if you’re looking for a movie to laugh at, pick this one. If not…well, you can’t say I didn’t warn you.

Woo boy…I’m not even sure where to begin with this one.  Shorts was a movie my friends and I decided to see because the ads looked horrendous and we vowed to see it and mock it. Let’s just say this movie wasn’t ‘Short’ enough. It was even more horrible than the ads implied.  First of all, the whole story (a series of ‘short stories’) was told out of order.  So imagine buying the Harry Potter series to read for the first time and reading them in this order: 4, 2, 6, 1, 7, 5, 3.  That was this movie.  It really wasn’t that funny at all, and the kids were all total dweebs while the adults were all stupid and couldn’t do anything right.  The plot was dumb as well.  A magic wishing rock?  Give me a break.  The acting wasn’t much better.  There were a couple funny parts, but not nearly enough to make up for the lack of anything good.  This movie was just plain bad, and there is really nothing more to say about it.  If you value good entertainment, steer clear.  If you want to ridicule a terrible movie…well step right up to see Shorts!
